EK Villain

Cast: Riteish Deshmukh,Sidharth Malhotra,Shraddha Kapoor,Aamna Sharif
Director: Mohit Suri
Genre:  Action, Romance, Thriller

Disappointing on the face of it. Your only salvage are the two lead male actors Viz, Siddharth and Riteish

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The very initial few minutes takes your interest off the movie. All the while you keep wondering why the torture! The story is the biggest disappointment. What can be more disappointing than the fact that Bollywood cant even copy a good stuff sincerely
  • Shraddha Kapoor, is the biggest let down in the film, her being the central character, makes it only more unbearable. She tries too hard to look sweet, she hardly looked any sick and how further irritating can it be, that through out you never get to know what she was sick with. Her shrieking voice and pathetic dialogues, more pathetically delivered minus any emotions, makes you feel like shutting your ears off, the moment she opens her mouth
  • The thrilling factor of the movie wasn't very well captured, it was mostly visible throughout and Riteish, however good an actor, couldn't do much to scare you. The sense of any logic and derivations are too far beyond your reach, hence why all the characters of the movie looks so less convincing
  • To add to your fury, you see some really potentially wrong castings like Remo Fernandes, who delivers dialogues with great difficulty and of all the people in the world, Kamaal R Khan :D Yes, you heard it right! And i keep wondering what sort of an item number does it make which Prachi tried to stage!
  • Quality of the overall movie was poor, if you can survive the first half of the movie, chances are that you can survive the second

What you can sleep over:

Aamna Sharif. Even though she was no less irritating with endless nagging, yet that was what the poorly done script demanded, i can still give it to her

You may look forward to:

  • The stars of the movie undoubtedly are Riteish Deshmukh and Sidharth Malhotra. While Siddharth looked really hot and he had enough opportunity to display his on screen intensities, he delivered to his best, standing tall and strong. On the other hand Riteish, was much beyond his usual comedy avatar and enacted very believably psychotic and dreadful, though i wish he could make every kill more thrilling to watch. Whenever on screen the duo confronts each other, the scenes are watchable if not appreciable, blame that to the director
  • The music is undoubtedly the biggest plus of the movie. Everytime you tend to loose interest, the songs come as revival to your soul

My Rating: 2/5 (Only for Siddharth and Riteish)

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Cast: Jay Baruchel(Hiccup), Cate Blanchett(Hiccup's mother), Gerard Butler(Stoic),Craig Ferguson (Stoic's closest friend),America Ferrera(Hiccup's girl friend),Djimon Hounsou(Drago),Kit Harington(Eret-Dragon Trapper)
Director: Dean DeBlois
Genre:  Animation,Action,Adventure,Comedy,Family,Fantasy

It does live upto its name. Extremely cute movie, a must watch for all animation lovers and for those who liked the prequel of this one!

You may look forward to:

  • Animation is only getting better in quality with every release. Absolutely brilliantly done and very much enjoyable in 3D. Great work Dreamworks!
  • Dragons are the highlights of the movie. And mind you, the dragons need not speak to make them viable and likable :) They are extremely cute even without speech, all you wish by the end of the movie is to tame one for yourself :)
  • The script is equally entertaining both for kids and adults, very less dialogues(only) scenes, and lots of visuals, the dragon flights reminds you of 'Avatar'! Besides, there is a good story which holds surprises to be enjoyed for all generations
  • All the voices lent were very apt and close to real life characters, kudos to all!

What you can sleep over:

Ohhh nothing, its a joy ride :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Nothing again, just fly with the dragons! :)

Filmistaan

Cast: Sharib Hashmi, Inaamulhaq, Kumud Mishra,Gopal Dutt
Director: Nitin Kakkar
Genre: Drama, Comedy

A different take on film lovers and terrorism :) Not a bad watch but expect low!

You may look forward to:

  • Sharib Hashmi, this guy is funny and he delivers at it! With absolutely no features to boast for as a hero, he still captures the limelight and rides through the entire movie while cherishing it
  • The script is different and certainly catches your attention for sometime, though its better not to expect too much. The story will be mostly liked by the film lovers
  • Inaamulhaq is a very good support and a very good actor again
  • Kumud Mishra and Gopal Dutt, played well as partners in crime :)

What you can sleep over:

Slow pace of the movie, while you keep waiting that something soon is gonna happen, you know the pace of the movie is already set, and there is nothing much that is gonna happen

The dampeners you should be aware of:
  • The film fails to make any impact. It entertains yes, but feels extremely dragging after certain point when there are absolutely no twists in the movie. Nor can you call this a documentary. So i believe this should have contained much more flesh and spice as well good direction which it lacked in certain areas
  • The way they dealt with terrorism wasn't impactful enough. The filmy fever was so naive and so high, that the terrorists looked like bunch of soft hearted fools, which is never so. If they attempted any satire here, they failed miserably

Holiday

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Sumeet Raghavan,Freddy Daruwala
Director: A.R. Murugadoss
Genre: Action, Thriller

Low on logic but otherwise and average entertaining flick

You may look forward to:

  • This movie is owned by Akshay Kumar. He does a good job, just as we have always known him as an action hero. Alas! The story was so unreal and with as many loop holes, even his power packed performance cant do much
  • Sumeet Raghavan adds on to some comic moments and is a good support
  • Even if the story is not a high quality something, yet it doesnt feel cliche, some aspects which are new in the way it is executed, makes it a watch not completely wasted

What you can sleep over:

  • Majorly the script, so unreal that you wonder wish things were this easy in real world, then you could possibly hope to inspire some Indians to go ahead and take charge! But alas! more than any inspiration, this movie serves just a piece of entertainment, and thats about it!
  • Songs were just about ok, sad that they were most of the time forced in. Blame it on poor editing

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Sonakshi Sinha. She should either quit or better do something different. She is a useless pivot, which is played only when you need to force a song sequence in the movie. What a waste. More importantly her many sports avatar, was such a pathetic mockery. Shame!
  • Freddy Daruwala, he never looked like an apt villain to stand opposite to Akshay Kumar. He is a kiddo with absolutely no expressions

Edge of Tomorrow

Cast:Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt,Noah Taylor
Director: Doug Liman
Genre: Sci-Fi,Action, Thriller

Amazing how every time same concept of alien invasion can give you a blockbuster. Don't miss it,this is a quality watch!

You may look forward to:

  • Tom Cruise along with Emily Blunt, own the movie. There are not many important characters. Tom Cruise is one man who can make same old cliche story look different each time and so entertaining. He will keep you at the edge and grip you throughout to you seats. Cheers to him!
  • Emily Blunt was another lead in parallel with Tom Cruise. I don't remember having seen many of her movies, but she does a good job here and as well looks hot :)
  • Noah Taylor was a good support
  • The story as cliche as it can be with a slight change this time, the alien invasion doesn't happen as one catastrophic event and finish at once. This time its an ongoing long lasting war, taking over one country after another but gradually. This along with the USP of the story of repeating the day every time, works very well for the movie and keeps your interest level at all time high
  • Doug Liman ensures the pace of the movie never drops and their are certain element of events lost every time the day repeats, so that you lay confused whether every new scene is yet a repetition or is occurring for the first time
  • Editing crew as well deserve a round of applause

What you can sleep over:

Not many moments where you need to rethink

The dampeners you should be aware of:

You may want to give it a thought, for why was 'Cage' bestowed with the power to repeat the day every time, which in the end led to the end of 'Omega'. If this power was meant to be a boon for'Omega', how did it lead to its defeat!

City Lights

Cast:  Rajkummar Rao,Patralekha,Manav Kaul
Director: Hansal Mehta
Genre: Drama, Thriller

A drama which wont waste your bucks! Keeping expectations low will help!

You may look forward to:

  • The movie is essentially a drama around the same old cliche background of the many hardships of poor country men, though with slight twists here and there. Hence, the second half of the movie reaps it while the first half remains more of a build up and regular mess around bigger cities Vs simple country side people
  • Rajkummar Rao, does very careful selections of his movies. He knows where he suits the best and he can deliver his best. He does a real good job and perfectly fits into a Gujrati character, as well a desperate husband to safe guard his family. His best scene was that of the drunken husband addressing his wife, kudos! :)
  • We have a debutant Patralekha in this movie. She is believably a small town female as per the role, portraying a demure, vulnerable character with a desperation to survive poor conditions. She has a meaty role in here with enough opportunities to showcase. Irrelevant to the factor that she happens to be my cousin, she does a decent job. Cheers! :)
  • I like the nature of roles Manav Kaul chooses for self. Its different every time. Good portraiture
  • Music of the movie isnt bad. One track-Muskuraane ki wajeh, in fact is very melodious and soothing to the ears

What you can sleep over:

The length of the movie Vs the content of the movie was not very proportionate. Its a drama in the end, adding some more content to it on you own will, wont do any harm :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Story line is pretty much cliche, nothing we haven't seen before, barring one new interesting profession which as well sinks in real quick
  • I still wonder why the climax had to be like this, it didn't exactly require to be tragic

Maleficent

Cast:  Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley,Sam Riley
Director: Robert Stromberg
Genre: Animation, Fantasy,Family

Its a pleasant movie, alike for children and adults

You may look forward to:

  • If not for Angelina Jolie, this movie would not fly. She is who filled in so much of content. A friend and a foe, a hero and a villain, its all her. She is the central character of the movie and a powerful one. Her beauty is just unmatched and seeing her after so long on big screens is a pleasure
  • The story is very simple and how we have always known the story of 'Sleeping beauty' with some additional edges
  • Elle Fanning was there only for a short duration, but how can this story be complete without the 'Sleeping beauty' herself :)
  • The over all presentation by Robert Stromberg, makes it a subtle watch. Even though nothing extra ordinary, it aint any bad either
  • Sam Riley was a good support and was present all through the movie

What you can sleep over:

Sharlto Copley's role was so puny. Feel sad for a character like that and feel sad for the actor who has to fill in

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Well, nothing wrong with the movie on the face of it. Going with low expectations will be however helpful

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Cast:  Hugh Jackman,James McAvoy(Charles),Michael Fassbender,Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult(Beast),Peter Dinklage(Trask)
Director: Bryan Singer
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Adventure

Surely doesnt live up to the hype created. Nothing new that we haven't seen before

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Hugh Jackman, much to my disappointment, has nothing much to do in this flick. He is just a messenger and that's about it
  • Stories like this have been told over and over again, very basic and very cliche. I dont see anything new in the script accept for changing faces
  • Action, hardly any! More or less time pass
  • VFX, nothing special
  • 3D, nothing extra ordinary
  • This is the first X-Men series where in the mutants look just the way, some ugly bunch of colored species would look, forced in to constitute some movie. Still wondering, if its the story that make them look so bad or it the unrelative and not well defined roles which make them look like a flock of unwanted ugly characters

What you can sleep over:

The character of Raven, who is the central target around which  the entire story is woven. Jennifer Lawrence is completely wasted. We wanted to see a very strong opponent in here, sad that
she was only a mutant, no better than Kangna Ranaut from 'Krrish 3' :)

You may look forward to:

  • James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, had significant roles to play. They constituted the main characters and to their assigned roles, played well
  • Peter Dinklage's role was that of any regular scientist in a sci-fi flick, just a little more stronger. He is a gray character, which every businessman is :)

My Rating: 2/5
