PK

Cast: Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt,Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani and Saurabh Shukla
Director: Rajkumar Hirani
Genre:  Comedy, Drama, Romance

Accept the humor, reject the plot. This qualifies for nothing more than a time pass flick

You may look forward to:

  • Humor angle is the only USP of the flick, which immediately makes it a comedy movie, not otherwise promoted quite as one. But if not for the humor, it would have been difficult for me to stand the rest
  • Aamir Khan did a fair job in trying to enact some creature, which is much more inclined towards fantasy than practically fitting in. Yet he very well manages to make you laugh with most of his dialogues
  • Anushka Sharma looks absolutely pretty throughout the movie, this outlook perfectly fits her. All you need to do is ignore her lips up close :)
  • Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput, has very small screen presence, but loved both of them

What you can sleep over:

  • Saurabh Shukla's role is the one i don't quite buy, off late we have seen many such contexts to depict this kind of role and point fingers to Godmen. Hence, this role doesn't help much in creating any impact
  • Barring just one song shot in Belgium, all other songs were trash

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Boman Irani completely wasted, he has a puny role to play, feel sad for him
  • The major turn off of the movie is the very plot. It feels like a B Grade make of the Paresh Rawal starer "OMG". This movie however made to address to the masses, fails miserably in creating any awareness at all. All that audience will take away after watching this will be the entertainment factor only
  • There are too many flaws from the directorial and editorial point of view, and too many overtly exaggerated scenes. Half of them do not make any sense. I expected a lot more from Raju Hirani
  • Post interval movie blemishes the entire build up in the first half. There was a lot of potential to the character of 'PK'. There can be so much more to him than falling in love for a beginner

Jessabelle

Cast: Sarah Snook(Jessie Laurent), Mark Webber(Preston), David Andrews(Dad), Joelle Carter(Mother),Amber Stevens(Jessabelle)
Director: Kevin Greutert
Genre: Horror, Thriller

Not a bad watch. First half of the movie does the job to scare the hell out of you!

You may look forward to:

  • The first half of the movie, pretty creepy. What makes it more creepy is the house she lives in, all alone. The ambiance and the context together certainly does give you many spine chilling moments from the movie
  • Sarah Snook does a very good job, firstly being handicapped, secondly the way she is shown dealing with the many death's around her, and unreasonable father and weird circumstances, over that fighting the unknown presence in the house. Beautifully portrayed helplessness
  • Mark Webber has a decent role, helping his friend and trying to rescue her from the ill happenings
  • Joelle Carter and Amber Stevens, were the questionable spooky characters of the movie. As the story unfolds, their roles becomes more clear and they certainly startle you
  • David Andrews does a good job of a grumpy old man

What you can sleep over:

The way the movie ends is a little weird. After an awesome build up, i expected a lot more to the movie. Not that the end is bad, but could have been concluded a lot better

The dampeners you should be aware of:

The second half and the unnecessary love angle of Jessabelle falling for Preston was actually funny :) The spooky roles lost its horror charm and reduced down the level of excitement to a larger extent

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Cast: Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage,Benedict Cumberbatch(Smaug & Sauron),Lee Pace(Thranduil),Orlando Bloom,Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans,Aidan Turner(Kili),Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving(Elrond) and Christopher Lee(Saruman)
Director: Peter Jackson
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, War

So here with this we mark the end of Hobbit series as well! Nostalgic! Those who have followed the entire LOTR trilogy and Hobbit, is a must watch!

You may look forward to:

  • Every time those big mountains and middle earth is shown on big screens, its all the more pleasurable to watch it in 3D :)
  • All the war scenes were shot well, as usual, Orcs slashing and killing in hundreds :)
  • You can expect the usual fantasy and adventure in the movie as it always is
  • Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman, in their usual roles in significant number
  • Richard Armitage has a major role in this as we know him to be 'Thorin', along with Aidan Turner having love angle in between and the rest of army of dwarves
  • Lee Pace,Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly, are the set of stronghold Elves that we have apart from short supporting roles from Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving
  • Christopher Lee and Benedict Cumberbatch, had smaller appearances, mostly Cumberbatch giving out the voices for the Dragon and the Evil Sauron
  • Luke Evans has a rather significant role as one of the leaders
  • There were some slight hint of humor from one scene to another, which is pretty much unlikely of Hobbit series :)

What you can sleep over:

There were some elaborate action sequences between the Orcs and Thorin, as well the Orcs and the Elves, which were shot a little over the top, nevertheless watchable

The dampeners you should be aware of:

The last release of The Hobbit series: Desolation of Smaug was much better and eventful than this one. This particular movie had less events. First half is more of preparation for the war in the second half

Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain

Cast: Martin Sheen, Kal Penn, Rajpal Yadav, Tannishtha Chatterjee(Dilip's wife), Manoj Joshi(Doctor),Gopichand Lagadapati(Gupta), Joy Sengupta and Mischa Barton(Reporter)
Director: Ravi Kumar
Genre: History, Drama

One movie deserving appreciation. All those who remember or are aware of the history related to Bhopal Gas tragedy should watch this one

You may look forward to:

  • History and every nuances behind the story very well depicted. Looks like quite in depth study was done on what actually went wrong in the factory before making into a movie. This story isn't restricted on surface only where Martin Sheen is not centered as the only negligent person and the only person to be blamed for. The story shows the inner side of factory level detailing, on how progressive negligence bought upon the accident which resulted in mass murder
  • The director Ravi Kumar did a very serious job of bringing about the smaller bit of stories from the slums and lifestyle of villagers to that of the rich American investors, to the job of the reporters, every single detailing well executed
  • Martin Sheen didn't have a very elaborate role who plays 'Warren Anderson', he was in all probability kept intentionally under low light. Nevertheless, commendable
  • Kal Penn, one hell of an actor. He was my hero of the movie. Brilliantly depicted role of the reporter. Clap Clap!
  • Rajpal Yadav, gets the much deserved break through, he is a brilliant actor and he gets enough opportunity to perform :)
  • Tannishtha Chatterjee, Manoj Joshi, Joy Sengupta and Mischa Barton, are the supporting cast, all of them limited role but everyone has distinctive character sketches and beautifully played
  • Gopichand Lagadapati had a mean role, he was one of the reasons of the catastrophic event in Bhopal

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Warren Anderson's role wasn't detailed enough. It may have been concised down intentionally, but he was a major key, and should have been covered well
  • The tag of 'A prayer for rain', isn't justified. There were only handful mentions of drought, while the entire attention remained with Union Carbide. Could have captured a bit of the misery

This Is Where I Leave You

Cast: Jason Bateman, Tina Fey,Adam Driver(Phillip), Corey Stoll(Paul),Jane Fonda(Judd's Mother), Rose Byrne(Penny),Kathryn Hahn(Annie),Abigail Spencer(Quinn), Connie Britton(Phillip's Girl), Timothy Olyphant(Horry), Dax Shepard(Judd's Boss), Ben Schwartz(Boner) and Cade Lappin(The only Kid)
Director: Shawn Levy
Genre: Comedy, Drama

A happy, fun and adult family drama :) Perfect Sunday watch :)

You may look forward to:

  • A relaxed light enjoyable watch with your spouse or with your friends. If you are tensed, you will be rejuvenated:)
  • The movie completely justifies its genre of Drama as well as Comedy :) That's all you've got in here. Plenty adult jokes and complications with relationships, multiple contradictory characters under one roof, fights and snuggles, laughter's and cries, realizations and frustrations, all sort of human emotions depicted on lighter notes. And yes life still moves on :)
  • Crazy lot of characters to credit, however the main lead being Jason Bateman, every other role seem revolving around him. He is one character who learns to appreciate a complicated life over a planned single track steady life :) His journey through the realization in 7 days is subtle and good :)
  • Tina Fey,Adam Driver and Corey Stoll, playing the siblings of the lead, all of them equally distributed roles balanced out with another significant role played by Jane Fonda, the perfect Mother :) Loved Fonda's character absolutely :)
  • Rose Byrne, Kathryn Hahn, Abigail Spencer and Connie Britton, are the supporting cast of the movie, mostly the reason of all the complications in an otherwise perfect family :D
  • Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Ben Schwartz, playing the second level of supporting star cast, shorter screen presence but each one of them leaves a different impression of his own :)
  • And a must mention of our cutest character: Cade Lappin :D Well, he reminds you how important it is to clear your bowels, on all the 7 days :P

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Too short a duration of a movie involving these many characters, character sketches are kept concise, not delving too deep. But the director does a good job, not letting that be any minus of the movie

My Rating: 3/5

Action Jackson

Cast: Ajay Devgan, Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam,Kunaal Roy Kapur, Manasvi Mamgai and Anand Raj(Xavier)
Director: Prabhudheva
Genre: Action, Drama

Expect below negative, you will end up enjoying it :)

You may look forward to:

  • Exotic locations. Yet again, dancing around the trees :D Nevertheless, NZ and Bangkok showcased very beautifully
  • Humor of the movie isn't bad, you do laugh out, certainly more than a giggle in various scenes, specially ones post interval
  • Both the lead actresses: Sonakshi Sinha and Yami Gautam, looked absolutely gorgeous. Any time they are on screen opposite Ajay Devgan :), you cant take your eyes off them
  • Ajay Devgan, did quite a good job in action scenes, this movie is all about action in the end. And he has worked hard, which you can see
  • Prabhudheva tried to give his best, if one notices, you could see, every action scene was set differently from another. Once in rain, then the other like an International take with slow western background scores :D He tried to make all the action scenes look good
  • Kunaal Roy Kapur is his idiot best, he does manage to make you laugh time to time

What you can sleep over:

  • Anand Raj didn't look convincing in the beginning as an International criminal, however as the movie advanced, he does manage to pull it off
  • Music was very okayish. Forgettable. Thankfully not an ear sore

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Manasvi Mamgai is the biggest disappointment of the movie. She dominated the second half, next to Ajay Devgan, and she sucks big time. I wonder how did she manage to get selected for this role which requires to not just be a vamp but also a sultry seductress!! All she does is to expose her chest, every now and then, where at a point i wonder, why does she even wear clothes. Looks very average, rather a little slutty, going by her character and acts very okayish, spoils the second half of the movie entirely
  • So what did not really work for the movie? If there are all the masalas and these many pluses and efforts put by everyone....!!!! Well, the era of mindless action flicks seems to be have finally gone from Bollywood. If this movie was released a year back, would have succeeded. People detest the same shit which they loved one year back. This movie was made at a wrong time or rather miscalculated by Prabhu Deva. And that's the only minus of the movie. Perhaps a bigger name like SRK can only make it look like a box office hit, if not rated by the audience :)

My Rating: 2.5/5 (An extra 0.5 for all the effort visibly gone into the making of the movie)

Exodus: Gods and Kings

Cast: Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, María Valverde, Issac Andrews
Director: Ridley Scott
Genre: Drama, Action

Doesn't meet the set expectations! Not a bad watch otherwise!

You may look forward to:

  • Beautiful and larger than life sets, you almost wish you could to be there. The many acts of god, even if they don't make sense(No offense), do look life like on big screens
  • Joel Edgerton did a good job, the many expressions of a ruthless ruler, to a betraying friend, to a caring father and a husband, he portrays pretty well!
  • Issac Andrews, this little fella deserves a mention. This guy gives out outstandingly mature expressions while being such a natural. One hell of an actor in the kid
  • María Valverde is beautiful, though not much long for her screen presence, but she does have a role significant enough

What you can sleep over:

Christian Bale disappointed me. I expected a lot from an actor like him and with a movie selling on him, i expected a much meatier role than Gods doing the most for him. And yet, as an actor, he isnt a minus

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The movie looked cliche in terms of war, no different stroke of sword, no specific act of valor. There were no moving or catchy dialogues. The movie lacked excitement big time. I felt sleepy out of inactivity and cliche scenes by interval
  • A period movie work only if it gives you a feel which is grand in terms of sets, in terms of characters and which makes an imprint on the audience that this character is the leader. Christian Bale's character lacked the true sense of leadership big time, failed establishing him as one, which in turn failed the success of the movie

My Rating: 2.5/5

Horrible Bosses 2

Cast: Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Chris Pine, Christoph Waltz(Mr. Hanson)
Director: Sean Anders
Genre: Comedy

A complete fun and frolic journey. A must watch for all the adult comedy lovers

You may look forward to:

  • I believe i love this part more than the first :) A good storyline, along with crazy team of 3+1, one helluva ride :)
  • Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day, the awesome threesome, with completely three different character sketches, entertains you till the end
  • Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx, are the amazing characters without whom the movie is incomplete. Their mere presence is hilarious
  • Chris Pine is a super awesome addition to the bandwagon. He is hot, is intelligent, hilarious and smart. He delivers really well to the changing moods
  • Christoph Waltz, a hardcore businessman. He is a subject to be hated :D
  • Sean Anders does a fantastic job in directing the fun filled drama

The dampeners you should be aware of:

You don't get bored at all, no minuses

My Rating: 3.5/5

Ungli

Cast:  Emraan Hashmi,Randeep Hooda,Angad Bedi,Neil Bhoopalam, Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt, Neha Dhupia, Arunoday Singh,Raza Murad,Mahesh Manjrekar
Director: Renzil D'Silva
Genre: Drama, Comedy, Thriller

A good plot goofed up. Doesn't serve anything more than a pass time flick

You may look forward to:

  • Innovative lessons taught to Government employees in various sectors involved in crime and malpractices. Adds to good humor while executing interesting ways to torture for the offense :)
  • Angad Bedi and Neil Bhoopalam, largely look alike, when teamed with Randeep Hooda :D They do a fair job
  • Sanjay Dutt these days is a special appearance. Doesn't have much to do, but yet good to see him
  • Neha Dhupia doing a decent job in the petty roles that she does these days, better than doing item numbers :)
  • I feel sorry about Arunoday Singh doing puny roles like this, however, he still did fine to whatever short screen presence that he has
  • Raza Murad on screen after a long time
  • Mahesh Manjrekar, short role as our antagonist :)
  • The only worth remembering song of the movie 'Dance Basanti' fared well with Shraddha Kapoor. Double Whammy for the lady :)

What you can sleep over:

  • Emraan Hashmi wasted. He had nothing much to play, he is absent in half the movie
  • Randeep Hooda wasted. He has much more potential to act in far better movies than these

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Kangana Ranaut, is the biggest waste of the movie, who is just used for promotions. Zero value add and skimpily written role
  • The movie lacked punch. The direction was poor. It failed to leave any good moral message for the nation worth remembering
  • Movie lacks a lot of common sense as well. Things happen as if every action is a piece of cake.
  • Too many loop holes to muster

My Rating: 2/5

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks(Effie), Philip Seymour Hoffman(Rebel Leader), Julianne Moore(Rebel Leader) and Donald Sutherland(President Snow)
Director: Francis Lawrence
Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama

More of a build up than a good delivery. You may enjoy it only if you are a fan of the book

You may look forward to:

  • Josh Hutcherson, is the only character to look out for in the entire movie. The darkness that looms around him throughout and the climax that ends with him, is worth the watch
  • Last half an hour of the movie is the only watchable section which manages to pick some attention
  • Liam Hemsworth had much better role in this one, he was much more than just a secondary lover of our female lead :)
  • Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks, do their best jobs as the mentors and supporters of Katnes Everdeen
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore, the newer characters, do play a strong backing to building the base of the movie
  • Donald Sutherland, our major antagonist, plays his regular best in provoking and playing cruel with the districts and its people

What you can sleep over:

All the over dramatization around Katnes Everdeen. Agreed, Hunger Games is also known for its grandeur and show offs. But marketing and show offs only with no content, is not convincing enough

The dampeners you should be aware of:
  • Now this one is very similar to "Twilight- Breaking Dawn I'. Extremely slow, dramatized, low on content and poor in delivery. All it does is to create a premise for its next release
  • Jennifer Lawrence wasted. She did nothing in the entire movie, accept for firing one shot and showing concerns around the survival of 'Peter Mellark'. She was more of an item girl, who was just used for a pivot. All through the movie, the camera doesn't move from her face. Felt sleepy and tired of all the extra attention given to her. Every breath of her used for marketing, and less to do with fighting against Capitol

My Rating: 2.5/5

Dumb and Dumber To

Cast: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels,Laurie Holden(Mrs. Pinchelow),Kathleen Turner(Fraida Felcher),Rachel Melvin(Penny),Rob Riggle(Twin Brothers)
Director: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly
Genre: Comedy

If you are ready to watch just anything at all under the sun, this senseless comedy wont be a bad idea, to destress :)

You may look forward to:

  • Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, the duo returns after 20 years. I havent seen the first part. But anyone can say, these guys make a great pair together, pulling each other, doing all sort of non sense
  • The mystery angle of the movie was well retained, so was the climax. The climax specially was unpredictable. Thankfully, the movie had some direction to move and some base story
  • Laurie Holden and Kathleen Turner, had brief roles, supporting pretty fine
  • Rob Riggle has the most awesome supporting roles. He has some meat in this role he plays. Kudos!
  • Rachel Melvin is a perfect example of beauty without brains, perfectly fitting into the context of the movie :D
  • A few particular scenes do make you laugh, some gross scenes and adult ones does the job :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Not for every audience for the liking. The humor is dumb and also categorized adult. It will wipe out significant audience, from kids to adults!

My Rating: 2.5/5

Happy Ending

Cast: Saif Ali Khan,Ileana D'Cruz,Kalki Koechlin,Govinda,Ranvir Shorey,Preity Zinta
Director: Krishna D.K., Raj Nidimoru
Genre: Romance, Comedy

Its just another Saify Romantic flick. Fair pass time!

You may look forward to:

  • Beautifully covered locations from Los Angeles and San Francisco. The angles and the coverage do make the cities look inviting
  • Saif Ali Khan, nice try. He did everything in his might to look the same romantic Saif from the good old days. And i wont blame him, he does fair quite fine, to what he is given, could have been much better if not for the minuses of the movie
  • Govinda, has a very short role again, but an entertaining one, good to see him again on big screens back to back :)
  • Ranvir Shorey had a splendid role in fact, he was the one who would make you laugh every time he appears on screen
  • Preity Zinta, after a long time. Looks young, looks fresh and looks cute as well :)
  • Ileana D'Cruz appears pretty throughout in good attires. You only wish she keeps her mouth shut :)
  • Music of the movie is pleasant and doesnt feel forced in

What you can sleep over:

  • Ileana's role was there in place, but somehow doesn't create much of any impact, somewhere feels like a misfit
  • Kalki Koechlin is wasted. She can do much better role than this

The dampeners you should be aware of:

The story of the movie is very cliche, largely missing on originality.Reminds you of many scenes from 'Love Aaj Kal' and 'Bachna ae haseeno'. The plot does have a lot of potential to be more humours and more romantic. It mostly touches everything only on the surface, which makes it less enviable for the audience

My Rating: 3/5

Beauty and the Beast

Cast: Vincent Cassel(Prince) and Léa Seydoux(Belle)
Director: Christophe Gans
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Adventure

Fairytale relived :) Its a nice sober weekend watch on big screens :)

You may look forward to:

  • Beautiful sets, and cinematography, takes you to picturesque world, bringing out your childhood imaginations out of the fairytale book. The presentation of the movie does certainly look grand and larger than life. Worth a watch in theaters
  • All the characters of this movie were very dreamy and straight out of the book. All of them together makes it a good watch
  • Léa Seydoux being the lead lady, i am sure her dresses and various other treatments will arouse a few more tickles in every female. She played the 'Beauty' as the name suggests :)
  • Vincent Cassel, doesnt have a lot of role in his human form, nevertheless, the beast personalified by him is excellent
  • All the other imaginary characters, be it the those creatures, what was made of the dogs, or be it those giants breaking havoc, all of them were beautifully designed

The dampeners you should be aware of:

This movie is just to spill you into your dreams, no negatives :)

My Rating: 3.5/5

John Wick

Cast:  Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist(Viggo Tarasov), Alfie Allen(Losef Tarasov),Adrianne Palick(Female Assasin), Willem Dafoe(Marcus)
Director: Chad Stahelski, David Leitch
Genre: Action, Thriller

It is a good watch for all the action lovers

You may look forward to:

  • Keanu Reeves, obvious! :) His handling of guns and each and every shot out of it is very enjoyable. His serious attitude with umpteen charisma of a hitman is the USP of the movie. He undoubtedly steals the entire show
  • The background score is the first time on my topmost plus list. Amazing scores throughout the movie, with much less dramatization, but brimming with style quotient
  • Michael Nyqvist played our antagonist, and all the run and chase around him was good
  • Alfie Allen had a petty role, which he played pretty well :)
  • Adrianne Palick, playing a female assassin gives you some good action scenes
  • Willem Dafoe, a very well known face, i somehow like the kind of roles he picks for himself. Suits him

What you can sleep over:

Such less background on John Wick's wife. Wish there was more to it

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Storyline is very weak. It has practically nothing in terms of story. It could fair a lot better with gruesome revenge plot around it :D

My Rating: 3/5

Kill Dil

Cast:  Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar, Parineeti Chopra,Govinda
Director: Shaad Ali
Genre: Drama, Crime, Romance

What a disaster make, out of a potentially entertaining plot!

You may look forward to:
  • Govinda, after a long time on big screens, and thank god he retained his level of seriousness in the movie from the beginning till the end. He didn't have a prominent role, but yet good to see him
  • Ali Zafar, has to be credited. Sudden serious makeover, his rough looks, his body language, his beefed up structure and his role, very commendable, if the plot was any better, he along with the other roles could have made this movie worth a watch!
  • First half of the movie is very very watchable. Pruned up with some good dialogues and the various character sketches, with their introductions, it did sound promising, but alas! only until the interval

What you can sleep over:

Cliche plot.Seen ten number of times! 2 young brothers or friends growing up with crime and so on

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Ranveer Singh, ohhh dude! Whats wrong with this guy! Playing in lead and such a junk role! First half again promising, but second half! Damn! He disappoints to the level where i was almost about to cry out of sheer helplessness. A big let down!
  • Parineeti Chopra, is responsible to screw the movie up. Absolutely no meat in her role. Her introduction hints towards her being in flesh trade market or equivalent, so deceptive and idiotic. I was expecting a possible twist in her role post interval. Dampener again! Until the very end, i expected her to come up with something better, but every time disappointed. On the top of the that, she never looked so bad in her entire career till now as in this. The skimpy western wears just wont fit her. She is on the heavier side. Nothing was good about her. Wonder why was she even there in the movie...duhhh!!
  • The climax and story of the movie was extremely bad, directionless and complete bull shit
  • Music, OMG! Big pain in the arse! Too many songs and all of them such a sore for your ears. You will literally run out of the theater in the last number with the credits, in the finishing line :D

My Rating: 2.5/5 (First half)
                 1.5/5 (Second half)

The Shaukeens

Cast:  Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher,Annu Kapoor,Piyush Mishra,Lisa Haydon
Director: Abhishek Sharma
Genre: Comedy

The most lukewarm movie of the weekend. Promises big, delivers pass time!

You may look forward to:

  • Annu Kapoor, he is the the real star of the show. He is bachelor, colorful and a mischief :) His dialogues and his persona is worth this entire movie :)
  • Anupam Kher and Piyush Mishra, were equal miscreants, what dampens their spirits over Annu Kapoor is that they are married :D
  • Akshay Kumar was his usual self, crazy bullshit. Yet he is adorable, as usual :)
  • Music is actually good. There are 3 songs which are already doing rounds

What you can sleep over:

Lisa Haydon. I expected a much better role from her specially after 'Queen'. Doesn't matter how small a role you do, you gotta be impressive. She was just lingering around the entire plot, giving out nuts alone

The dampeners you should be aware of:

This movie could have been so much better on the comedy aspect, when they already had the base plot ready from the old movie. The creative angle was completely missing. The directors job was to make the old Shaukeen look like the new age Shaukeens. How difficult is that given the plot fits into today's world much better than back in that era. Let down!

My Rating: 2.5/5

Nightcrawler

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed(Rick)
Director: Dan Gilroy
Genre: Thriller, Crime, Drama

A performance oriented movie by Jake Gyllenhaal backed by a thrilling storyline. Worth a watch!

You may look forward to:

  • Jake Gyllenhaal owns this movie. He plays a character who is selfish, manipulative, egoistic and partly psychic. very complex description and easily the best performance by him till date. He is the backbone of the entire thriller and deserves a huge round of applause
  • Dan Gilroy does a brilliant job of presenting it, every minuscule expression from Jake Gyllenhaal and the background around, all exclusively done
  • Rene Russo has a real time difficult role, being a boss ain't always easy. Well, there you go :)
  • Riz Ahmed is another interesting character, the way he is being played and risked, rocks your mind until some time

What you can sleep over:

A bit part of gory content, if you are allergic to it :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

There were quite a few unrealistic viewpoints to the movie, it seemed a lot of times like playing with the fire with calculated risk, as if the risks were all staged for 'Louis Bloom' to get past. He plays with not one but many lives, of completely different backgrounds and not caught a single time. Little difficult to digest. Be it playing with a high profile lady Director of a news channel, or be it with the full blown criminals, or fellow reporters or cops or even an idiot assistant who just blindly follows his every step without a signed job contract, and none intelligent enough or alert enough to nail him! Whacko!

Big Hero 6

Cast: Ryan Potter(Hiro), Scott Adsit(Baymax), Daniel Henney(Tadashi),T. J. Miller(Fred), Jamie Chung(Go Go), Damon Wayans, Jr.(Wasabi), Génesis Rodríguez(Honey Lemon), James Cromwell(Professor Callaghan) and Alan Tudyk(Krei)
Director: Don Hall, Chris Williams
Genre: Animation, Action, Comedy, Family, Sci-Fi

This weekend has seen some really good releases. Again a must watch for all animation lovers, kids and adults alike!

You may look forward to:

  • This movie is a sure shot assurance that its worth every penny you spend. Cute beyond expressions!
  • The story is written keeping the new age children in mind, hence the current age adults are as well bound to enjoy this. You get your dose of action, comedy, engineering, geekiness and great animation :)
  • My favorite character is undoubtedly 'Baymax' voiced over Scott Adsit. Boy! what a cute arse this thing is, i connect to it more for myself being from Health Care. But this guy is cuteness personified :D You would so want it to be real and be a part of your daily life :)
  • Ryan Potter voiced for 'Hiro'. He is one intelligent dude but a kid in the end :) He is the one who gives birth to the Big Hero team all together :) Feels no less than 'Iron Man' with all the nerd talkies in between :D
  • Professor Callaghan, was beautifully written character voiced by James Cromwell, and gives all the adults equal thrills and a role which completes the story
  • All the other supporting casts and voice overs were equally funny and cool to watch out for

What you can sleep over:

3D is okayish, don't expect literally to see the 3rd dimension flying over

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Caution for the adults, story may seem cliche and icing being kiddish :D But damn that, this movie is too cute to remorse for all of those :)

My Rating: 3.5/5

Rang Rasiya

Cast: Randeep Hooda, Nandana Sen, Paresh Rawal and Gaurav Dwivedi(Raj Verma)
Director: Ketan Mehta
Genre: Biography, Drama,History, Romance

It is a beautiful biography depicting art. There is not one but many reasons why you should watch this movie!

You may look forward to:

  • This movie certainly helped me rekindling my faith in Bollywood, specially after movies like 'Happy New year'. Now this is what i call a quality watch
  • This movie teleports you back to 1890's, gets you a brief peek to the history which connects to Raja Ravi Verma and the deep impact his art has till date on our mythological characters and our religious beliefs
  • I love the way the movie beautifully depicts the fact that nudity was always a part of our culture, and how it is lost time and again and is again re established by someone all afresh fighting anew against all odds, from the ancient times to the age of our independence to the present day, amazingly presented by Ketan Mehta. It is a big blow to the so called moral police
  • Randeep Hooda is the star of the movie, re enacting the role of an unsung artist, who has a deep rooted cultural connection to how we know the art in India today. The flamboyant nature depicted with such an ease, along with the arrogance and every smallest of nuances of the character which clearly is in the shade of gray. His disrespect to the same woman he worships more than anyone else in his life, to his definition of love and his definition of passion and romance. His quest to know Indian culture and to bring it all down to piece of paper, his confidence and the risks that he takes. There are multiple shades to his character, and he plays all of them with such an aplomb!
  • The sets of the movie are beautiful, so is the cinematography. This is worth a watch in the theaters! I am glad such kind of movies are getting positive nods from the Censor Board to be screened in theaters, even though on a much smaller scale for the discrete audience
  • The story of the movie is as well a major key factor which keeps you interested throughout the 2.5 hours of duration. How Raja Ravi Verma's exclusive art were taken to the masses and what impact it had on the masses, to how it was converted to business, to the kind of support art used to get in that time of our history, everything very well depicted in such a short time
  • Nandana Sen does a very brave job to be the face of the character she was given. Though its best when she doesn't talk :) But yet, by the end of the movie, her character grows so much on you, that you don't mind her voice and her expressions, i give it to her :)
  • Paresh Rawal had a very minor role, but his role is that of a true businessman and brutally honest at it, a hard man on you! Always appreciate this man as an actor!

What you can sleep over:

Gaurav Dwivedi has a very minuscule role, but never mind, he gives his best shot!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Nothing, this movie is an ode of experience, and wish to keep it at it :)

Interstellar

Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain(Murph), David Gyasi(Romilly), WesBentley(Doyle),Matt Damon, Bill Irwin(Voice for TARS),Josh Stewart(Voice for CASE),Mackenzie Foy(Young Murph) and Michael Caine(Proff Brand)
Director: Christopher Nolan
Genre: Sci-Fi, Adventure

One movie to blow your mind! Must must watch!

Note: This is rather an intelligent movie, and no where comparable to 'Gravity' which was more for its visuals

You may look forward to:

  • This movie belongs to Christopher Nolan. The way he represents science and explains it in layman terms, aint any easy job to accomplish. He literally sums up all the researches around our universe and more in a matter of 3 hours, as intelligibly possible to be comprehended
  • The movie opens up your mind to think beyond, beyond the 3 dimensions:) This has a lasting impact on you for days to come
  • Matthew McConaughey does it again, after the 'Dallas Buyer's Club'. He plays a well built sturdy farmer/NASA pilot in this one,the most experienced and the brave one. He plays a role much beyond his own survival up in the space. One man to watch out for!
  • Anne Hathaway as the leading lady, plays the character of Dr. Brand beautifully, just the way her director wanted her to
  • Jessica Chastain was one of the very important characters. She keeps buzzing on and off throughout the movie
  • Matt Damon had a decent appearance, we can rather call him the bad man of the show :) Well played!
  • David Gyasi and Wes Bentley were good supporting casts up in the space :D
  • Josh Stewart and in particular Bill Irwin have their presence felt amazingly well, their voices behind the machines were remarkable
  • Mackenzie Foy and Michael Caine, were good supports from the characters on earth :)
  • This movie is an experience, more for the story and for the direction, as compared to the visuals

What you can sleep over:

  • The first half is a lot nerdy, too many scientific terminologies, not everyone can understand it at first go through and through. Though it definitely doesn't mess up with the underlying plot onto which the story is running
  • At the very climax, almost 10-15 mins of the movie is just very errand, where in they keep switching between Cooper inside Black Hole and Murph back on earth in her library. The most confusing minutes of the movie which as well gets pretty irritating at one point of time, when for all most 10 minutes you as an audience are struggling to understand what after all are they individually trying to connect to!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Yes, the movie could have been visually so much better as well. It was not built in 3D, that's a big time dampener. Some better visual effects, could have done wonders!
  • There were few unexplained weird misses here and there, like that of Proff. Brand's role after 23 years, he just doesn't age a bit until his dying days, except for that additional wheel chair put to him, crazy miss by Nolan! Unbelievable, just hoped for a better explanation to it, but alas! There were none. Again by the end of the movie, they completely forgot Cooper's Son(Tom), perhaps he didn't want to pay up for another old character :P

Ouija

Cast: Olivia Cooke(Laine), Ana Coto(Sarah), Daren Kagasoff(Trevor), Douglas Smith(Pete), Bianca A. Santos(Isabelle), Lin Shaye(Paulina) and Shelley Hennig(Debbie)
Director: Stiles White
Genre: Horror

Off late with all the horror movies coming along, this doesn't come out to be very spooky!

You may look forward to:
  • Beautiful ladies bandwagon :) Minus any hot feature though :)
  • Well, for those who are crazy about horror movies, i guess you will still not mind watching it :)Nor did I :)
  • Olivia Cooke and Ana Coto, playing the leads, its a woman oriented movie as it seems :) They did a fairly good job
  • Lin Shaye, this lady has a definite role in the movie. She does make an impact
  • Shelley Hennig, one amongst the short lived beautiful ladies :)

What you can sleep over:

Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith and Bianca A. Santos, were okayish supports

The dampeners you should be aware of:
  • The story is about fine, what it lacked is spookiness in terms of content. First half had practically nothing in it. Second half had some content, could have been much better
  • It is a definite dampener for a Halloween release

The Best of Me

Cast: James Marsden, Michelle Monaghan, Luke Bracey(Young Dawson),Michael Hoffman(Young Amanda),Sebastian Arcelus(Husband), Gerald McRaney(Tuck), Sean Bridgers(Father)
Director: Michael Hoffman
Genre: Romance, Drama

Those who like romantic, is a must watch!

You may look forward to:

  • It may not have raked big ratings in media, but this is one of those touching and beautiful stories, which reminds you of 'The Notebook'. Yes, you can set similar expectations from this and enjoy the movie with your loved ones :)
  • James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan, playing the older couple; chemistry between the duo is commendable. Young love story moves any class of people very easily, but a relatively older couple playing the same trick on you, is not all that common. These guys make you feel, one can be romantic and so much in love even in their 50's with the same passion as always!
  • Luke Bracey and Michael Hoffman, the younger variation of the couple, undoubtedly touches one or the other strings of you. You must have lived one or the other few moments in there. Its very easy to relate and to flow with them as the childhood lovers play their magic on each other and on you :) Michael Hoffman, in particular is worth appreciation, the tenacity with which she pursues her love and the intense feeling towards her man, is amazing!
  • Sebastian Arcelus and Gerald McRaney, had short but significant roles for support
  • Sean Bridgers has a very well written role, he earns the hatred back from you! Unbelievable for a man being this selfish
  • Haven't read the novel, but its presented very well connected and no visible lose ends, the story is complete. Michael Hoffman does a good job at it
  • Movie justifies the length with good detailing and nice characters sketches of each individual

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Nothing! Love knows no logic :D

Fury

Cast: Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman(Norman), Michael Peña,Jon Bernthal,Scott Eastwood
Director: David Ayer
Genre: War, History, Drama

Over rated, aint as catching as it should have! Nonetheless, relive the history from WWII

You may look forward to:

  • Logan Lerman, he is definitely the guy to look out for, unsung hero somebody! If the history is true, i have highest regard for this kid. How much it takes for a typist to fall into a war zone and start killing people, as well stick to a team in such circumstances and play along, isn't a thing for a coward. Very well played
  • Brad Pitt undoubtedly.  But i was expecting a lot more from him than merely this. He had this constant look throughout, barring one or two instances. But he was the only man standing tall and making various calls. So yes, he was important and he is Brat Pitt :)
  • Shia LaBeouf came out as a surprise in this role. Very unconventional from how we remember him :)
  • Supports from Michael Peña,Jon Bernthal and Scott Eastwood, were fine
  • The illustration of the war like situations back from the history, resurrecting old tanks, and recreating the entire set is commendable. How ugly and how intrusive life was during the World War is unimaginable, especially under the banner of Hitler, is no less than a nightmare, jitters you even today

What you can sleep over:

It has enough bombings and firings, enough violence to prove a war like situation. But not enough to keep you up

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Too very stretchy. Again, this could be shortened to 2 hours. Plethora of boring scenes with dialogues put me to sleep couple of times. I couldn't acknowledge a war movie as boring as this without much content to substantiate in the dialogues, nor presented in a manner to make it look interesting and touching
  • All the roles except that of Brad Pitt's and Logan Lerman, felt unevenly distributed. The other supporting actors, weren't meant to be looked upon as a support. They are meant to be looked upon as a team. Brad Pitt's dominance subdued their roles to a larger extent

Gone Girl

Cast: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris(X boy friend),Tyler Perry(Tanner Bolt), Carrie Coon(Nick's sister), Kim Dickens(Detective) and Sela Ward (TV Host)
Director: David Fincher
Genre: Mystery, Crime, Thriller

Spine chilling presentation! This is one movie which attacks your psyche big time, beware of any negative outbursts! :)

You may look forward to:

  • Gone girl belongs to Rosamund Pike, if not for her, the movie cant hold you for long enough! Its not every day where you see a woman oriented psychic thriller, apart from horror movies, where mostly women psychic ghosts dominate :P Rosamund Pike manages to give you jitters, getting onto your nerves while she plays her tricks to frame one man after another. Smart but not over  smart huhh!! One beautiful deceptive face, is what she is, so much into the character, that every man would wish never to marry!
  • Ben Affleck, playing the victimized character, played upon as well playing along! He is one character in the shades of gray. For a long time he keeps you wondering if he is the culprit, which appears almost true. He plays a role, sometime kinky, sometime an arse, sometime a player and then a big time victim. Multiple ups and down, beautifully played :)
  • Neil Patrick Harris,Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon and Kim Dickens; all the supporting characters were very very effective, and all the very important roles
  • Sela Ward in essence deserves a special mention, she definitely brings out the good and ugly side of the media, humorous and interesting

What you can sleep over:

  • First half of the movie until 5 mins before interval, feels no less than a subject of joke. Be it the entire media circus, or the way a kidnapping scene is investigated or how the missing reports are handled by Ben Affleck and Amy's parents is just way too dramatic, and a satirical attempt to present which fails miserably. Thanks to the explanations just before interval, all of the first half starts making sense then after
  • Direction has its own hits and misses. On one side where the entire focus is on the satirical presentation or on Amy-the lead role, which were done very well, but there were many aspects which lost focus and evidently missing

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The only big dampener of the movie are its innumerous loop holes, small  and biggies. Lots of ends remain open and unexplained and the significant miss outs from the directorial and scripting point of view were eyebrow raising and dampens the effect of a full proof thriller movie
  • Movie feels a lot draggy, it could easily be consumed in 2 hours, we didn't require the additional mess around. Especially by the second half of the movie, you keep wondering where is it gonna end after all!

Sex Tape

Cast: Jason Segel, Cameron Diaz, Rob Corddry(Robbie), Ellie Kemper(Tess) and Rob Lowe(Hank)
Director: Jake Kasdan
Genre: Adult Comedy

Recommended watch at home than in theaters in India. Not worth spending money for a lame subject and censored out scenes!

You may look forward to:

  • Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz, they make a beautiful pair, a horny one :) They were the central characters and did pretty well to what the script had to offer
  • Diaz looked every bit in her 30's, she didn't look old at all! Instead she looks hot ;)
  • Rob Corddry and Ellie Kemper, they made another beautiful pair in support
  • Rob Lowe being my personal favorite, had a very interesting role to play :)

What you can sleep over:

All the idiotic things that happen in the movie

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • All the major scenes behind the sex tape were comfortably censored. I wonder why did i go for it to begin with!
  • To make it further worse, the comedy angle as well wasn't up to the level to make you laugh your heart out
  • The story was pretty much uninteresting, they could have made use of such a bold plot and make it into a roller coaster fun ride, but alas! It was very passe!!

Happy New Year

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood,Boman Irani,Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff
Director: Farah Khan
Genre: Comedy, Crime, Musical, Romance

If this movie is on your list, i strongly recommend get a fun company and do leave any bit of your brain back home, in order to enjoy it!
You may either end up with a headache or have a light hearted- fun time watching it :) Choice is yours!

You may look forward to:

  • Deepika Padukone, she was as if the face of the movie. With the already hit number 'Lovely' which also happens to be the only hit number in the so called musical film, she definitely catches all your attention. She has equally important role and looks absolutely ravishing throughout
  • Abhishek Bachchan was hilarious, he played his idiot best :D He was all the time in focus and more like a second fiddle to SRK
  • The movie manages to make you laugh, you do not realize that you have been sitting there for 3 continuous hours. I give it to Farah Khan
  • Sonu Sood was a good support, enjoyed his abs more than SRK's ;)
  • Jackie Shroff made a decent villain, he didn't have much villainous to do other than some delivering of dialogues, yet, he was a decent watch
  • There were certain tactics which looked good, such as the escape plan out of the metal locker
  • They didn't show much of Dubai, but they certainly did an out and out marketing of Hotel Atlantis. Like any other SRK movie, i have to agree, it was a grand show, and beautiful on big screens

What you can sleep over:

  • Shah Rukh Khan tried his best, be it building his abs, or trying his best to deliver action scenes, cant say to what extent will people like him! He looks old, worn out and no powerful impact
  • Vivaan Shah was okayish support, just in the name of a hacker, you simply need not know how much of what is he actually doing :D
  • The romantic angle between the lead pair felt very one sided and a little too foggy, nothing much to enjoy

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Boman Irani was absolutely wasted, i fail to understand, why does he need to do movies like this, he is a much serious actor, and he cant do filthy comedy like this
  • This movie clearly lacks originality big time, right from the storyline to dialogues. Everything reminds you of several movies, looks like its the new age of recycling :)
  • The first half, ohhh boy!! Was damn kiddish, i was wondering if this movie was built to please SRK's new born son and thereby all the kids of the country! Making no sense what so ever, many action scenes were plain stupid
  • The movie lacks a punch, you wouldn't dare to watch it the second time
  • All the entry scenes of the actors were so damn idiotic. Its beyond kiddish, its just bull shit! Except for Deepika's entry, i didn't enjoy any other
  • Again, except for Deepika's "Lovely", rest of the songs beyond pathetic, ones you just cant stand. Its big let down for a movie which is termed musical in the backdrop of dance competition etc

Kill the Messenger

Cast: Jeremy Renner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead(Editor),Oliver Platt(Boss),Rosemarie DeWitt(Wife) and Paz Vega(Coral)
Director: Michael Cuesta
Genre: Biography, Crime, Drama

Quality watch! Another serious movie this week, this being a biography! Watch it for Jeremy Renner

You may look forward to:

  • Jeremy Renner playing the central character of the movie, based on a biography of a small time reporter who made it big suddenly and gone in a flash! Depicting life of a reporter, passion and courage, Jeremy played it very well. Cannot recall him playing anything as intense as this. Much beyond action, great work!
  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Oliver Platt, were great support at the work front
  • Rosemarie DeWitt in an equally wonderful support
  • Paz Vega, absolutely hot and dangerous :)

What you can sleep over:

Absolute seriousness in the movie, no entertainment, not even a pinch of humor anywhere! Since it is a biography, you can give into it :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

The pace of the movie, even if it isn't as slow! Yet, it somewhere fails to keep up with your continuous attention, director at helm

The Judge

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio(Glen) and Jeremy Strong(Dale)
Director:  David Dobkin
Genre: Drama, Crime

Serious drama with difficult English :) Definite worth a watch!

This movie just reminds you, there are good people, there are bad people and then there are the difficult ones :)

You may look forward to:

  • Another amazing flick by Robert Downey Jr. I wonder when is he going to become a senior :D This man possesses some impeccable skills, gets only better with each time. His portrayal of a selfish, insouciant image in each of his movies with amazing dialogue deliveries, gets him to that edge. Watch this movie for him!
  • Robert Duvall, amazing actor. I dont remember seeing him in many movies, nevertheless, absolutely beautiful portrayal of a last generation, egoistic, adamant old judge/father
  • The USP of the movie is the chemistry between the father-son duo! Humanity Vs patience
  • Vera Farmiga, boy oh boy! Giant leap huhh, from ghosts to Robery Downey Jr's lips :) Remarkable! :D She looks very pretty and thats all she does :)
  • Vincent D'Onofrio and Jeremy Strong, in good support!
  • I liked the way the mystery is handled in the flick, and as well concluded. Till the very end you are mesmerized by the way the crime aspect was directed and handled in the scenes!

What you can sleep over:

Difficult English!!  Sigh!!! You cant understand half the dialogues without the subtitles

The dampeners you should be aware of:
  • A portion of the scenes from the court trials were over stretchy and unnecessarily emotional. Keep the emotions out of court! Period! :)
  • Well, Alas! even after being a performance oriented movie, this one is a one time watch only!

Dracula Untold

Cast: Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon,Charles Dance
Director:  Gary Shore
Genre: Fantasy, Horror, War

A pass time movie, doesnt hurt!

You may look forward to:
  • Luke Evans, playing the lead.  He is the charm for the entire stretch of movie, with his chiseled body and alien power and might, he keeps you interested until the movie lasts
  • Dominic Cooper, made a good villain :) While lot of villains in big movies dont qualify for a good one, this guy certainly does :)
  • Sarah Gadon, plays a good support and sacrifice in there
  • Charles Dance managed to scare me in the first few of his screen presence, make up well done, and played well too
  • This movie has a certain pace and keeps running with that, at no point do you feel extra blood rushing your veins neither any sleep inducing drug out of it. That works for me for a Sunday watch :)

What you can sleep over:

Action scenes were a little weird i would say, not like Indian movies-One man Army kind of action where people are flying in the air, but yes, somewhere on the similar lines until in the story the King realises he needs an army to win the war, he alone cant work out, however powerful. Now that i appreciate :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

I expected a little more from the Dracula suit, it was well hidden under wraps almost till the end, but it turned out to be a fizz

My Rating: 3/5

Annabelle

Cast: Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola(Father), Alfre Woodard (Evelyn),Tree O'Toole(Annabelle)
Director:  John R. Leonetti
Genre: Horror

Doesn't live up to the expectations. No where close to 'The Conjuring'

You may look forward to:

  • The second half of the movie, far better than the first half
  • Annabelle Wallis, co incidental name or intentionally chosen for this movie :) She did a good job playing a mother, and protecting her family from evil
  • Alfre Woodard plays a significant role with least screen presence :)
  • Ward Horton and Tony Amendola were decent supports
  • Tree O'Toole, manages to spook time to time

What you can sleep over:

The climax and the end! Very non happening and so comfortably done and concluded!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The terrifying moment were far less, and a lot less intriguing!
  • First half was more of a slow family drama, mostly without any content
  • Be the investigation and analytical part, or be it the thrilling aspect, they were all very subtle and nothing outstanding to make you scream in horror

My Rating: 2/5

3 A.M

Cast: Rannvijay Singh, Anindita Nayar, Salil Acharya,Kavin Dave
Director: Vishal Mahadkar
Genre: Horror

Again first half does retain your attention but second half screws it up, same story with all horror flicks

You may look forward to:

  • Rannvijay Singh manages to pull of this Hindi Horror flick in a manner that it doesn't look a B grade trash horror something. He tries to pull over as far as possible until the interval. Appreciable!
  • The horror aspects slowly builds up, it brings out hope that you would see something significant soon, first half definitely isnt bad
  • Kavin Dave is a good support and helps adding in pinch of humor with his dialogues
  • Salil Acharya is as well a good support, alas! doesn't last for long
  • Music isn't bad, the first song is actually good :)

What you can sleep over:

Anindita Nayar managed to look beautiful, not perfect though, doesn't have much to do in the movie otherwise

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Second half is responsible for the bad ending. Forced in flash back for a song sequence of no relevance when you are dying to see some action
  • While Hollywood horror movies gives one and only solution of exorcism, Bolly Horror movies gives us some Hindu prop or ritual, does no good in horrifying but surely does manage to look funny. Cliche cliche!

Haider

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Tabu,Irrfan Khan,Kay Kay Menon,Shraddha Kapoor,Narendra Jha
Director: Vishal Bhardwaj
Genre: Crime, Drama, Romance, Thriller

Good subject, darkened beyond need!
If you have been too happy off late, go for it, you will have some change :)

You may look forward to:

  • Shahid Kapoor gets a performance oriented movie to act in! Sober to animal to crazy, you see him in different flavors! He is worth the appreciation!
  • Tabu had very gray shade to her role, a victim some time or a player, gets difficult figuring out till the end. She manages to keep a dark secret around her throughout
  • The chemistry between Shahid and Tabu, is questionable and is as well complicated. Nevertheless, never an easy thing to play, is a plus for the movie
  • Irrfan Khan, again has a grayish shade, he helps and as well takes away, he plays with various characters to his benefit
  • Kay Kay Menon, a labelled negative role, but has a softer side for the woman he loves, which eventually proves fatal to him! So whats more intelligent, politics or love!
  • Narendra Jha, had a short quiet role, a good support
  • Beautiful Kashmir, ever beautiful Jhelum, snow and streams! Its wonderful to watch it on big screens!
  • Immediate 45 minutes of the movie past interval picks up really well, and you get to see Shahid acting awesome! Be it how he acts or he dances, he definitely catches your attention!

What you can sleep over:

Shraddha Kapoor, again a role to just fill it up. A dud head beauty, who more than impressing, does irritate. Unnecessary romance and uncalled for drama which finally ends with her!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The movie is unnecessarily too dark and too heavy and too slow! We understand Kashmir in its worse times, we understand even the psyche of people which were threatened, but, i refuse to accept that all the major characters in the movie who were in focus were all a lil loosened nuts, driven by insanity of their own kinds! The way it hints, its almost like picking up the most depressed family in Kashmir, put it into the characters of Hamlet, and produce it to film a movie
  • All the many deaths in a row reminded me of the movie 'Rajneeti', exaggerated bull shit, nothing close to reality but very much otherwise fictional! How 'Hamlet' happens to describe the death of the entire royal family is tragic, but this one feels far less from tragic. It feels more suicidal. Fault at the script execution and the Director at that
  • So what does Haider mean?? Haider= Survivor :) One person driven by crazy fit of emotions and reactions, around whom every body just dies :)
  • Music, oh my lord! So so so irritating, draggy, lengthening, save me the horror!
  • You can doze off multiple times during the movie, its that slow and draggy at times

My Rating: 2.5/5

Bang Bang

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Danny Denzongpa,Jaaved Jaffrey,Pawan Malhotra,Jimmy Shergill
Director: Siddharth Anand
Genre: Action, Comedy, Romance, Thriller

Over hyped and under delivered. Entirely Director's fault!
All the Hrithik fans should however watch it for him!

You may look forward to:

  • Hrithik Roshan, is the only selling factor of the movie. He is smoking hot, delivers undeniably breath taking action scenes and an amazingly well dancer that he is. He is one face of the movie who is every woman's and every man's dream, in different takes though ;)
  • The second half of the movie is the good part, it thankfully reaps all the bad omen of first half with exotic locations, amazing action by Hrithik and good music
  • Pawan Malhotra and Jimmy Shergill were good supports!
  • Music, choregraphy and action are the selling points packaged in one person

What you can sleep over:

  • Katrina Kaif, wasted! More of a second fiddle! Even worse than Dhoom 3, not even a dance sequence to her. I guess Hrithik wasn't comfortable sitting holding a part of her robe in his hands while she gave away with a solo performance :P
  • Danny Denzongpa and Jaaved Jaffrey, couldnt really stand up to be strong villains

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • A very bad adaptation of an already average movie: Knight and Day. Most of the scene and dialogues are copied in Bollywood style. Nothing original in it
  • Absolute no brainers, thins were just happening out of no where. Connection and practicality from one point to another was largely missing. Hrithik injures his leg jumping off some building, and then next thing you know, he is dancing his arse of with Kartina! All and every where he keeps jumping off buildings/cliffs, they never show the rescue or escape plans! Many other blunders of various kinds
  • The mystery behind the fact, " Who is Rajveer Nanda?", was actually never a mystery at all! Right from the first scene of the movie you will know who he is gonna be, even before he appeared on screen :D
  • I have no idea why was half the movie shot in Shimla, i just wanted them to end the Shimla episode there, with long unending winter :P In the same season where its all summer and lively in Prague :P
  • The movie fails miserably in Romance, thriller and comedy aspect, the only winner is action, and that too only for Hrithik's stunts, not for the weird disconnects!

My Rating: 2/5
4/5 (For Hrithik Roshan independently- He deserves the credit)
