Gone Girl

Cast: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris(X boy friend),Tyler Perry(Tanner Bolt), Carrie Coon(Nick's sister), Kim Dickens(Detective) and Sela Ward (TV Host)
Director: David Fincher
Genre: Mystery, Crime, Thriller

Spine chilling presentation! This is one movie which attacks your psyche big time, beware of any negative outbursts! :)

You may look forward to:

  • Gone girl belongs to Rosamund Pike, if not for her, the movie cant hold you for long enough! Its not every day where you see a woman oriented psychic thriller, apart from horror movies, where mostly women psychic ghosts dominate :P Rosamund Pike manages to give you jitters, getting onto your nerves while she plays her tricks to frame one man after another. Smart but not over  smart huhh!! One beautiful deceptive face, is what she is, so much into the character, that every man would wish never to marry!
  • Ben Affleck, playing the victimized character, played upon as well playing along! He is one character in the shades of gray. For a long time he keeps you wondering if he is the culprit, which appears almost true. He plays a role, sometime kinky, sometime an arse, sometime a player and then a big time victim. Multiple ups and down, beautifully played :)
  • Neil Patrick Harris,Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon and Kim Dickens; all the supporting characters were very very effective, and all the very important roles
  • Sela Ward in essence deserves a special mention, she definitely brings out the good and ugly side of the media, humorous and interesting

What you can sleep over:

  • First half of the movie until 5 mins before interval, feels no less than a subject of joke. Be it the entire media circus, or the way a kidnapping scene is investigated or how the missing reports are handled by Ben Affleck and Amy's parents is just way too dramatic, and a satirical attempt to present which fails miserably. Thanks to the explanations just before interval, all of the first half starts making sense then after
  • Direction has its own hits and misses. On one side where the entire focus is on the satirical presentation or on Amy-the lead role, which were done very well, but there were many aspects which lost focus and evidently missing

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The only big dampener of the movie are its innumerous loop holes, small  and biggies. Lots of ends remain open and unexplained and the significant miss outs from the directorial and scripting point of view were eyebrow raising and dampens the effect of a full proof thriller movie
  • Movie feels a lot draggy, it could easily be consumed in 2 hours, we didn't require the additional mess around. Especially by the second half of the movie, you keep wondering where is it gonna end after all!

My Rating: 3.5/5
