Kick

Cast: Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda,Nawazuddin Siddiqui,Mithun Chakraborty,Archana Puran Singh,Nargis Fakhri
Director: Sajid Nadiadwala
Genre:  Action,Comedy,Romance,Thriller

This looks like a 'Dhoom' remake with Salman Khan :) If you don't mind cliche, you will enjoy it :)

You may look forward to:

  • If this is Ameer Khan's: Dhoom 3 Vs Salman Khan's: Kick, Salman Khan clearly is a winner! You cant help but give it a second thought, that perhaps, Ameer Khan was a wrong choice for Dhoom 3. Salman looks clean, suave, dashing and his regular fun charisma combined with some serious aping :) He meticulously hides the age factor and very well looks mingling with Jacqueline. On the other hand, Ameer looked such a mismatch with Katrina. Needless to say, Salman is the man of the movie, he gives you all the songs, dance, drama, action, thriller, dialogues, romance, everything that you can expect! Score: 0:1
  • Randeep Hooda is Abhishekh Bachchan equivalent. Caution to Yash Raj Films: Re-consider the super cop in the next series of Dhoom :) Clearly Randeep suits better :) Even though he looses. Score: 0:2
  • What makes a Salman starer a non loser action thriller as compared to Dhoom losers is that they always try to have a social message behind mischief's and make Salman a real hero, and not a criminal by the end, and hence a conclusive end :P Score: 0:3
  • Jacqueline Fernandez was omnipresent in first half, second half she just disappeared, not to be seen til the end. Nevertheless, her dance moves seriously impresses. Again, Jacqueline Vs Katrina, Katrina is still a winner :) Score: 1:3
  • The story is not very complicated but enjoyable, creates enough confusion giving Salman a grey shade until the climax! His mask, well.. doable! :) Score: 1:4
  • The movie is a winner to me, since it has a pace, never boring and continuous twists, compelling stunts and makeover of vehicles, making it a one time worth watch! Score: 1:5
  • Music by Himesh Bhai after certain interval again :) Wasn't bad really guys! Though not declared a musical hit, yet, the numbers mostly were good! Score: 2:6
  • Mithun Chakraborty and Archana Puran Singh, had a limited and decent support! Score: 2:6
  • Warsaw, Poland; beautifully showcased, even if not every part of the city, but a significant lot, its a treat to the eyes :) Score: 3:7

What you can sleep over:

  • Jacqueline Fernandez had a rather stupid angle to her role, she gets Salman home for therapies, and does nothing, absolutely nothing, other than dancing in discos :P
  • Nawazuddin Siddiqui wasted. He could have had a much meatier role and much more surface to perform. Nevertheless, he is still appreciable!
  • Nargis Fakhri, Baby...Bollywood is not for you!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • Movie lacks originality. Yes, everything is big time cliche, except for Salman Khan's curtain closing dialogue :P Score: 4:7
  • But overall, if you are aware of this, there is no further let downs! :D Expectations burns down!

My Rating: 3/5
Final Verdict: Dhoom 3 Vs Kick- 4:7 :D

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Cast: Jason Clarke(Malcolm),Gary Oldman(Dreyfus),Keri Russell(Ellie),Andy Serkis(Caesar),Toby Kebbell(Koba)
Director: Matt Reeves
Genre:  Sci-Fi, Action, Thriller

A movie that connects superficially intelligent wild apes to humans. This one is a good quality watch!

You may look forward to:

  • Most of the credit goes to the amazing cinematography and to the director. The colonization of the apes and a world much separated from that of humans, beautifully portrayed. Takes you to a world of a different level of civilization all together
  • The story line, is not very complex, rather revolves around human quest for basic requirements Vs the angst and revenge of the apes amidst some good apes who want to preserve what they managed to procure. What is really moving is how regardless of races, there are evils as well as angels inside everybody
  • Jason Clarke acted the mediator between two different civilization with a sole purpose and to achieve the same, much appreciated
  • Gary Oldman and Keri Russell, were good human supports
  • The two main voices behind the apes were that of Andy Serkis for 'Caesar' and Toby Kebbell for 'Koba'. Though there were not many dialogues coming from the apes, yet every gesture of the apes were very close to real
  • Cinematography in every action scene were fantastic

What you can sleep over:

Probably drawing comparison to its prequel will be a wrong idea!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

The movie in 3D is an absolute waste, nothing different than in 2D

My Rating: 4/5

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

Cast: Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Shukla,Ashutosh Rana,Gaurav Pandey(Shonty),Sahil Vaid(Poplu)
Director: Shashank Khaitan
Genre:  Romance, Comedy, Drama

Decent watch! It doesn't bore you, rather leaves you with some pleasant smiles :)

You may look forward to:

  • The leads, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, for a change, Varun Dhawan takes away more limelight than Alia in this. He picks up most of the quips and fun in the movie, keeps up with the pace with his boyish charm and romantic looks
  • The story is a lot simple and childish, but not brainless(Thankfully), there are lot of references and adaptation from DDLJ, which are direct references from the movie, with fresh breathers
  • Story is pretty much cliche, yet direction is what makes it a good watch, so Shashank Khaitan should take the credit for it
  • Humor angle of it was done adequately, never overdone, which helps keep you at a pace through out the length of the movie
  • Siddharth Shukla, was no hunk, but yet played the role of a hunk pretty well :D
  • Ashutosh Rana after a long time, comes as a nice change
  • Supports from Gaurav Pandey and Sahil Vaid, were like any other hero's friends, nevertheless, much appreciated

What you can sleep over:
  • Alia Bhatt for a change didn't have a meaty role to herself, she was rather overshadowed most of the times
  • Music overall was average, except for those two hit numbers which were promoted all the while

The dampeners you should be aware of:

This is a light hearted movie, the only dampener(if at all) could be that there is nothing new about the movie, everything is very cliche. Yet you wont be disappointed, thank the director for that :)

The Fault in Our Stars

Cast: Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff(Isaac),Laura Dern(Frannie),Sam Trammell (Michael),Willem Dafoe(Van Houten)
Director: Josh Boone
Genre:  Romance, Drama

It is a touching love story of two ailing teenagers. Its a good watch for all those who appreciate genres like this!

You may look forward to:

  • The beautifully presented love story by Josh Boone. Very simple story but equally heart felt. This movie can leave you in tears and touch many dormant chords of your heart
  • Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort were amazing with their performances at this age with not many decades of hands on experience in acting. Ansel Elgort in particular wins your heart over
  • The chemistry between the duo was splendid and romance was in abundance with all teenage love blended with situational depths. What do you think you really care for if you know you are to be dying one day! Not many would have a straight forward answer to it!
  • Nat Wolff,Laura Dern and Sam Trammell, as supporting family and friend were equally good on their part to play
  • Willem Dafoe in a different role in here, plays pleasantly an arsehole :) You will love him!

What you can sleep over:

The crazy turn of events over meeting an author, well i understand one can have a certain different value for certain things, but this aspect was more or less blown away a little too much

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • There are certain areas where it stretches too beyond, specially while concluding, you keep wondering, how much more misery does Josh Boone intend to cover from various angles, which looks monotonous after a while
  • They hardly look sick, least as cancer patients :D

My Rating: 3.5/5

Bobby Jasoos

Cast: Vidya Balan, Ali Fazal, Vinay Varma(Father),Anupriya Goenka(Afreen),Arjan Bajwa,Supriya Pathak,Tanvi Azmi,Zarina Wahab,Kiran Kumar
Director: Samar Shaikh
Genre:  Comedy,Drama, Thriller

Disappointing on the face of Vidya Balan. All female oriented movies do not mean substance!

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The biggest let down of the movie is its lousy script, absolute no brainers and a mockery in the name of a detective movie
  • Vidya Balan disappointing after a long time, she not only picks up a wrong script but also over acts all through
  • The movie lacks any thrilling aspect. The humor is also pretty much shallow and doesnt really help grabbing any of your attention, though like any other Bollywood movies, its packed with drama
  • The Hyderabadi flavored hindi was also not very convincing

What you can sleep over:

  • Kiran Kumar picks up well but later starts dragging and the character starts loosing the grip, and by the time the character unravels, his role is burnt to ashes
  • Songs are mostly dampeners except for one sufi inspired romantic number

You may look forward to:

  • The movie picks up around the interval, for those who are going for the movie, its best to keep expectations really low, since it doesn't have much at the concluding end
  • Ali Fazal and Arjan Bajwa were decent enough
  • All the other supporting characters were good to their given roles

Chef

Cast: Jon Favreau,EmJay Anthony,Sofía Vergara,John Leguizamo(Martin),Scarlett Johansson,Oliver Platt(Food critic),Bobby Cannavale(Tony)
Director: Jon Favreau
Genre:  Comedy

A very refreshing film with a fresh breather. You shouldn't miss it as there are very few such releases in India

You may look forward to:

  • Jon Favreau is the man, throughout! Be it as actor or a director, he does an amazing job. He knows best how to touch hearts even without doing anything extra ordinary
  • The story is very subtle and mostly on the road, the food the delicia, various cultures and people, you cant help grab a good lunch or snack after the movie, its mouth watering good :)
  • EmJay Anthony is the junior man of the movie, hand in hand with Jon Favreau, sharing splendid chemistry between father-son relationship
  • Sofía Vergara, is much astounding than expected, she plays a very matured woman in a very nice to go relationship
  • John Leguizamo was a strong supporting character and fab one
  • Scarlett Johansson,Oliver Platt and Bobby Cannavale were good in short supporting roles
  • Cameos by Robery Downey Jr and Russell Peters were a delight to the eyes, every moment of the appearance were cherishing

The dampeners you should be aware of:

Awwww, nothing! Its just a cute movie on the go!

Transformers: Age of Extinction

Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor,Stanley Tucci
Director: Michael Bay
Genre:  Action, Sci-Fi

Not a bad watch for the action lovers. However, its good to keep expectations low

You may look forward to:

  • Transformers all the way till the end. You have lots of machines and lots of fights. Action is the only USP of the flick. If you love to see the autobots fight its enemies out, this is the movie you wont regret
  • Mark Wahlberg did a good job, but he hardly had any meaty role to perform. The movie belongs to the transformers quite literally
  • Stanley Tucci, a gray shaded business tycoon, did his part pretty well too
  • Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor, had significant role compared to Mark Wahlberg

What you can sleep over:

Length of the movie, don't literally sleep over it :)

The dampeners you should be aware of:

The story line was pretty weak. Humans were unnecessarily lurking around, not having enough reasons to be there. Alas all the human characters were more or less wasted and the story doesn't give enough pump to declare the movie a WOW!

My Rating: 3/5
