Finding Fanny

Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapur, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Anjali Patil and Ranveer Singh
Director: Homi Adajania
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance

Doesn't live up to the expectation. However, a fresh watch!

You may look forward to:

  • The movie is so watchable for these three characters: Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur. Though the movie is promoted in the name of Deepika Padukone. But the true stars were the older and experienced actors
  • Naseeruddin Shah is such a wonderful actor. This guy is actually so adorable in the movie. Each and every expression, so meticulous and so natural, flawless
  • Dimple Kapadia has a splendid role in this one. She is like ' The woman' of the movie. Not just the actors in 20's and 30's, but also the last generation actors apply a lot of effort in their bodies to look as per the character. Her body was the USP of the movie after all! :) Rosy is a lady tough from outside but a lovable lady inside, with sentiments :) Beautifully played
  • Pankaj Kapur was hilarious. His sudden upturn in the character in the second half was shocking. He is a role with deceptive features. Not every individual whose life seem simple, mean uncomplicated character at heart. People can be good or bad in any situation!
  • Ranveer Singh had a very short cameo with no dialogue. He looked like a darling :)
  • Anjali Patil has a short supporting role playing the role behind the name 'Fanny'

What you can sleep over:

  • Backdrop of Goa, same old streets seen in multiple movies, and one or two new roads. 50% of Indians must have been in those places in Goa. No additional charm that they added, say to depict the local culture of Goa, or anything beyond roads
  • As rightly put by an RJ on the radio, this movie is a poor man's 'Zindagi na milegi dobara' :D
  • The movie was meant to be a comedy in chaos with romance. We had our own share of humor in the film, but it doesn't stand up to be as quirky sense of humor, as it should have been
  • Deepika Padukone looked really fresh as daisy throughout, even though she toned down her assets to the extent where in it stopped mattering she is shirtless or she is not :P But alas! apart from looking a daisy, she had nothing more to offer
  • Arjun Kapoor acted like a douchebag half the time, and a huge piece of flab walking around. He somehow looks unshaped bulk of mass. His role wasn't any significant either, but he had a presence that completed the picture of the entire cast

The dampeners you should be aware of:

  • The movie is released both in Hindi and English, however the one in Hindi is just a dubbed version, with no lip sync, which makes the experience a blunder. I chose to watch it in Hindi, thinking English wont exactly fit in, later only to my despair that English would have been a better choice
  • The story in the second half dragged a lot, specially the scenes involving Deepika and Arjun

My Rating: 2.5/5
